Springtime in Mississippi
Spring is the time everyone has been waiting for throughout the winter months. Spring means fresh foods, fun in the sun with friends and short sleeves. Lula Mississippi has plenty to do throughout the season—you won’t want to miss a thing.
The best chefs always say you should eat foods that are in season. Springtime in Mississippi means Meyers lemons, fresh peas that are plucked right off the vine, watermelon salad and crisp asparagus that snaps right in half. A caprese salad is the perfect salad dish to serve at a backyard barbecue, especially since basil is in season in Mississippi from May until October. Simply slice tomatoes and mozzarella into thin rounds and layer on a serving platter. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle salt, pepper and fresh basil over the top.
Speaking of barbecues, fresh produce isn’t the only thing that works well on a picnic table. Spring in Lula means plenty of time eating and drinking with great friends. When the mercury starts to hit about 70 degrees, doors and windows fly open. It also means everyone starts filtering outside to fire up the grill. Every kind of meat — from chicken to burgers, salmon to sizzling steaks — ends up over charcoal or a gas flame. Beers crack open, foam fizzing out the top.
Now that the days are longer, the sun shines stronger down on the city of Lula. In April it’s warm enough to wander outside in just a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Throughout the month, only light sweatshirts are needed to keep people warm in the evening. By May, it starts getting nice and warm with highs in the 80s. Occasional thunderstorms rain down during the day, cooling sweaty foreheads and forcing flowers into bloom. Though it already feels a little humid, cool breezes float by and keep the air from feeling too heavy.
By mid-May, the heat starts to creep up, and the only way to keep cool is to jump into the pool. Friends and friends of friends all flock to the nearest backyard pool or the pool at a local hotel. The Isle of Capri®’s outdoor pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and adults take respite in its refreshing waters before heading out for a night of food, fun and gaming.
Boating on the Mississippi River
The Mississippi River is not only a great place for a boating adventure — it’s one of the best places to people-watch. Climb into a wooden canoe and paddle down the river for a day of relaxation and fun. Those who don’t find canoeing much of an adventure can rent kayaks or paddle boards and enjoy spring like celebrities do. Even sitting on a dock or a bank of the Mississippi River can provide hours of endless relaxation and entertainment.
Napping in the Shade
Just because springtime in Mississippi is here, that doesn’t mean days need to be filled with endless entertainment. Sometimes getting a little rest and relaxation is in order. One of the best springtime activities in Lula is finding the shade of a large tree, laying down a blanket and curling up in the fresh air with a good book. A little lemonade and a few cookies never hurt anyone, either. The days are longer, which means there’s plenty of time for rest and play.
When the weather is hot (but not too hot), it’s the perfect time for playing a few outdoor sports. Kicking around a soccer ball, throwing a softball or shooting some hoops are all great ways to get your game on, and get some exercise in the process.
While fun in the sun is the name of the game in the springtime, there’s plenty of fun when the sun goes down, too. The Isle of Capri offers plenty of gaming promotions throughout the spring.
No matter what your favorite seasonal past times are, there is one thing for certain, Spring is here!
