    Lucky Friday the 13th

If you've crossed the path of a black cat or walked under a ladder lately, you may be worrying about your bad luck on Friday the 13th. You don't have to break a mirror to feel unlucky — historic superstitions have been known to include architects omitting the 13th floor of an elevator and businesses closing their doors on the 13th of the month.

The fear is so real, it even has a scary name: friggatriskaidekaphobia or paraskevidekatriaphobia, originating from frightening Norse and Greek mythology. This phobia has prevented frequent fliers from boarding airlines on the 13th and dinner hosts keeping their guests to 12 or less people.

The History of the "Cursed" Day
This cultural phenomenon of supposed curses is rumored to have traced back to the late 1800's and followed by our forefathers starting "The 13 Club" to actively protest against superstitions. Some historians argue it began in 1307 with the arrests and persecution of France's Knights Templar.

The 1980s saw our favorite hockey-masked villain, Jason Vorhees, terrorizing the summer campers who had wronged him in "Friday the 13th." With multiple sequels and a hit franchise including books and a TV show that swept pop culture, the unlucky history of the date began to take a modern turn.

We can see the avoidance of the number 13 every day. There are only 12 months in a lunar year and 12 zodiac signs we know of. Despite your fears and superstitions, the Isle of Capri® Lula is here to help you deter your bad luck.

Win Good Luck the Old-Fashioned Way
Historians and superstitious folk have argued over the ways to bring good luck for centuries. Some of these ideas include:
Don your good luck charms, such as four-leaf clovers and rabbit's foot keychains.
Change your routine. Get out of bed on the right side and skip cleaning the house that day due to unlucky brooms!
Wear red to ward off unlucky spirits. Red underwear will keep your work uniform strictly business.
A positive attitude is important. Keep your eyes on the prize!
