    Celebrate National Pork Month with BBQ in Lula

    Time to celebrate all things pig – October is National Pork Month! Traditionally the time of year when pigs go to market, you can take this opportunity to remember the work that pork producers do to provide everyone with chops, hot dogs, bacon and more all year long.

    Pork is Popular Worldwide
    It might surprise you, but pork is the most consumed meat on a global scale, and is central to traditional cooking throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. As the population continues to increase, pork is only becoming more in demand, and National Pork Month serves as an opportunity to highlight the connection that consumers have to our nation’s pork farmers.

    Ham is King
    The most popular pork product in the United States is ham, which accounts for 31.1% of home consumption of all pork items. Rounding out the top five are sausage, bacon, lunchmeat (excluding ham) and pork chops.

    Pork is Versatile and Easy to Cook
    About 81% of the population will consume pork at their home within a two-week period. Since pork comes in such a wide variety of products with a range of flavor profiles, it can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just make sure you cook it to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s recommended internal temperature, which is 145° F, and you’ll have tender, perfectly done pork!
